The strategic move worked once for South Florida — why not try it again?
In 2017, the region’s economic development agencies joined forces to bid for Amazon’s second headquarters. While South Florida wasn’t selected, it was a finalist in the national competition. And that raised the region’s profile, industry experts say.
Drawing upon that success, three local chambers of commerce — the Chamber of the Palm Beaches, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce — have formed a new regional organization: the South Florida Business Council.
The council is "a more formal way for the business community to have a voice across key regional issues,” said Christine Barney, CEO of Miami-based RBB Communications and the first leader of the new business council, during a recent meeting with the South Florida Sun Sentinel’s Editorial Board.
