The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce has chosen Alberto Ibargüen, president and CEO of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and former publisher of the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald, as its 2023 Sand in My Shoes Award recipient. Ibargüen, 79, joins a list of 42 others to receive the Chamber’s top accolade. The Sand in My Shoes award is given to leaders of the South Florida community who are deemed to have demonstrated exceptional public service in the metro Miami-Dade area. “I am honored to receive the Sand in My Shoes award and proud that the Miami business community embraces the Knight Foundation’s mission of supporting informed and engaged communities,” Ibargüen said in a statement provided to the Miami Herald by the Chamber of Commerce.
