Empowering Businesses Through Apprenticeships

GMCC's Apprenticeship Forum has recently brought together education experts, businesses, and apprentices, illuminating the impact of apprenticeships on education and workforce development in South Florida. Spearheaded by Lisa Martinez, Vice Chair of the Education and Workforce Development Committee, the event featured a diverse panel, including Dr. Alexia Q. Rolle, Dean of Career & Technical Education at Miami Dade College, and René Mantilla, Assistant Superintendent for the Office of Postsecondary Career and Technical Education.

Addressing multifaceted perspectives on apprenticeships, the forum answered the pivotal question, "Is an Apprenticeship Right for Your Business?" Panelists underscored the benefits of Registered Apprenticeships across industries, focusing on talent recruitment, training, and retention. Personal narratives from apprentices like Abraham Matellus, Project Manager at Related Urban Group, showcased the program's transformative impact, inspiring others to embrace apprenticeships.

The forum's impact was immediate, with at least three businesses expressing interest in initiating their apprenticeship programs with Miami Dade County Public Schools and Miami Dade College. The Workforce and Education Committee is developing an Apprenticeship Resource Guide, a valuable tool accessible on the Chamber website, offering insights on creating Registered Apprenticeship Programs to nurture a skilled talent pipeline.

GMCC's Apprenticeship Forum underscores the Chamber's commitment to advancing education and workforce development in South Florida. By seamlessly integrating apprenticeships into business strategies, the Chamber not only addresses workforce shortages but also facilitates tailored training, contributing to sustained growth. Join the Chamber in unlocking the transformative power of apprenticeships—a mutually beneficial scenario propelling both businesses and apprentices towards a brighter and more prosperous future.
