Legislative Updates: December 2024 Changes Impacting Miami Businesses
In November, our Chamber took center stage at the Tallahassee fly-in, focusing on legislative priorities that resonate within our business community. A particular highlight was our steadfast advocacy for increased healthcare providers in Florida, garnering positive receptions from the Miami-Dade Delegation. The imperative need for more healthcare professionals was clearly understood, setting the stage for substantial developments.
Senate President Passidomo's unveiling of the "Live Healthy" legislation in the Senate Health Policy Committee marks a pivotal step. This legislative initiative, championed by Passidomo, encompasses two bills allocating nearly $1 billion to bolster Florida's healthcare workforce and foster innovation in the field. SPB 7016 and SPB 7018 address critical aspects such as workforce training, deregulation for employment mobility, loans for technological innovation, regulations, healthcare pricing transparency, and forgivable loans for volunteer health services. Notably, the initiative excludes Medicaid expansion.
A key moment emerged during a meeting with incoming House Speaker Daniel Perez, underscoring the importance of providing concrete facts. Your active participation in our workforce survey becomes instrumental, helping legislators grasp workforce needs, not just for healthcare but across all industries.
