The Honorable Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida
José Luis Martínez-Almeida has served as the Mayor of Madrid since June 2019 and has been a member of the Madrid City Council since 2015. Born on April 17, 1975, in Madrid, he graduated from Comillas Pontifical University as a state lawyer in 2001.
He served as Director-General for Historic Heritage of the Community of Madrid from 2007 to 2011, before being appointed Secretary of the Government of the Community of Madrid. Almeida resigned two years later to join the Secretariat General of SEPIDES (now SEPI), where he remained until 2015 when he was elected a councilor. In 2017, he became the spokesperson for the People’s Party in the City Council, and in 2018, he was appointed to the National Executive Committee of the party.
On June 15, 2019, with the support of Ciudadanos and Vox, he succeeded Manuela Carmena as the Mayor of Madrid.
