State Priorities

 

Transportation

  • Support policies and funding that expand transit and mobility options for South Florida residents through: a) the County’s SMART Program, and b) by seeking increased flexibility of FDOT District funding programs.
  • Advocate for increased funding to support the development and expansion of additional transportation corridors across South Florida that benefit Miami-Dade residents, including the Kendall Parkway.

Workforce Housing

  • Support expanding incentives to encourage adaptive reuse of underutilized properties, develop missing middle housing, and promote transit-oriented development. These efforts include pushing for property tax exemptions, streamlined permitting processes, and zoning flexibility to enable affordable housing on institutional lands.

  • Support affordable housing initiatives for healthcare professionals to address workforce shortages and improve healthcare access in Miami-Dade County as recommended by the GMCC Healthcare Committee’s white paper on retaining healthcare workers.

Workforce Development & Education

  • Support investments in workforce education and development, focusing on high-demand career pathways and public-private sector collaboration.

  • BENEFITS CLIFF ABATEMENT: Advocate for adjustments to the School Readiness income eligibility threshold and recurring funding for the School Readiness Plus Program to assist families with childcare costs in order to maintain high workforce productivity and reduce employer costs for turnover and absenteeism associated with the lack of affordable childcare.

Resiliency

  • Advocate for continued property insurance legislation reforms which entice additional private providers to write policies in Florida.
  • Advocate for increased funding and legislative support to protect South Florida’s ecosystems, including the Biscayne Bay Water Quality Improvement Grant, the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan, and green-gray infrastructure projects. These efforts will enhance water quality, support economic growth, create jobs, and strengthen coastal resilience.
