The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and its 501c3 not-for-profit organization, the South Florida Progress Foundation, are pleased to announce seven scholarships will be awarded in three categories this spring to seniors from Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Scholarships are limited to 12th grade students, graduating this semester:

  • The inaugural El Poder En Ti Scholarships, created in partnership with NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, to recognize and celebrate academic excellence, leadership skills and the pursuit of higher education.  Five scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded to selected graduating seniors from a Miami-Dade County public high school planning to pursue a career in broadcast journalism, communications, electronic media, digital media or journalism at a South Florida college or university.

  • The 2017 Jeanne Bellamy Scholarship, named for the first woman chair of the Greater Miami Chamber in 1977-1978.  A scholarship of $2,500 will be awarded to a female, high school senior from a Miami-Dade County public high school who intends to pursue a degree in business.

  • The 2017 Carlos J. Arboleya Jr. Scholarship, a legacy scholarship in the name of Carlos J. Arboleya Jr., son of Chamber Chairman Carlos J. Arboleya who served the organization in its 1992-1993 year. The $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a male, high school senior from a Miami-Dade County public high school who intends to pursue a degree in business.

Scholarship winners will receive their scholarships in May at their respective schools on a date to be determined by school officials. Winners will also be invited to the Chamber's Trustee Luncheon on May 3 for recognition before the Chamber membership. Should you have questions about the application process, please contact Liane Ventura at [email protected] or 305-577-5445.  Please note that all applications must be completed online and received no later than 5:00 p.m. on March 31, 2017 by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.

In addition, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for its FREE Youth Leadership Miami  (YLM) program. YLM, modeled after the Chamber's long-standing and successful Leadership Miami® program, brings together students from high schools throughout Miami-Dade County to meet and interact with Miami's leaders and learn important leadership and teambuilding skills. Seniors who are selected to participate will also have the opportunity to submit an entry into the program's scholarship contest. The annual program will take place March 24 and 25.
