Natural Resources & Management Goals

  • Continue to educate the business community on the issues and benefits of sustainability and provide a special focus on high level policy issues at the state and federal levels.
  • Identify and publicize incentives/opportunities for businesses that engage in sustainable practices such as tax credits, loans and rebates.
  • Improve upon the Sustainable South Florida Awards program by reaching out to new industry sectors, identifying and targeting visionary leaders in the industry, and expanding our applicant base to include Broward, Monroe and Palm Beach counties to make this truly a South Florida award.
  • Educate and interface with Chamber committees and appropriate external partners on initiatives/issues that demonstrate overlap and potential synergies.

GREEN TIP OF THE WEEK

Reduce work related travel, telecommute; it saves money, time, and environmentally damaging emissions. Firms fear that telecommuting results in a lack of productivity but happy staff are generally more productive. Ensure employees have a quiet space from which to operate, appropriate tools and that the equipment they will be using is properly secured. Telecommuting employees require a different style of management, too -- based more on results rather than clocking in and out.

"Green Jargon"
  • CO2: chemical shorthand for carbon dioxide -- the greenhouse gas that is contributing greatly to global warming.
  • Carbon footprint: the amount of carbon dioxide emissions created by a person or industry.
  • Emissions: usually used in reference to exhaust or greenhouse gases or carbon dioxide production as a byproduct of human activity. Brought to you by the Going Green Taskforce. For information on the Going Green Campaign or to submit a "green tip," email esimonhoff@miamichamber.com.
